A Message From The Interim Artistic Director

Dear TMP Patrons,

I’m writing to you with deep gratitude and an open heart as I step into the role of Interim Artistic Director at Tacoma Musical Playhouse.

Like so many of you, I am still holding the shock and sadness of losing Jon Douglas Rake. His passion, generosity of spirit, and unwavering belief in the power of musical theatre co-created Tacoma Musical Playhouse, alongside his life partner Jeffrey Stvrtecky. This community—onstage, backstage, and in the audience—was profoundly important to Jon, and honoring this legacy is something I carry with great care.

TMP has always been more than a building or a season of shows. It is a gathering place. A place where stories are shared, friendships are formed, and people feel they belong. That sense of belonging is what has kept me coming back since 2009 (when I first performed here) and what gives me confidence as we move forward together.

In this interim moment, my focus is on continuity, care, and community—supporting our artists and staff, celebrating the work already underway, and ensuring that TMP is a welcoming, inclusive, and vibrant home for musical theatre in Tacoma. I am excited about what’s ahead, and equally committed to listening, learning, and showing up for this extraordinary community.

Thank you for your continued presence, your generosity, and your love for this theater. You are an essential part of TMP’s story, and I’m honored to walk alongside you in this chapter.
