Young at Heart Players!

What better way to be involved in the theater than to be on stage in the theater?!

The Tacoma Musical Playhouse Education Department is proud to present a program designed especially for our senior community. The Young at Heart Players provides an exciting opportunity for mature adults age 50 and older through a performance based workshop that rehearses from April 13th-May 27th and culminates in a fully-staged musical production for everyone to enjoy. This program is free to all registered participants and will be directed by Mike Wilkinson (actor and retired theater director from Bellarmine Prep).

THE 2010 PRODUCTION:
MY OLD FRIENDS
An unlikely group of strangers has made of themselves a tight-knit family. They are the residents of the Golden Days Retirement Hotel and they inhabit a charming, high-spirited musical by Mel Mandel and Norman Sachs called My Old Friends.

Filled with bright, melodious songs, clever lyrics, and sprightly but decorous dances, My Old Friends follows the sedate adventures, the subtle ups and downs, and the often tedious daily existence of eight senior citizens in this "retirement hotel for those that are well." In the opening number, "I’m Not Old", the characters introduce themselves: the Jewish soap opera maven, Mrs. Polianoffsky; the jokester and self-styled Master of Ceremonies, Mickey Catlan; the cautious romantic, Sidney Fineberg; the peripatetic tie salesman, Wally Slocum; the dancing Latino, Arias; the militant activist, Mrs. Cooper; and the vivacious lady with a secret sorrow, Heloise Michaud.
