Senior Theater
The Education Program at TMP is working to provide a variety of educational performance opportunities for our senior community. Senior citizens can choose to engage by singing with the Memorie Singers chorus, or get involved on stage in a musical theater production with the Young at Heart Players.
Young at Heart Players!
What better way to be involved in the theater than to be on stage in the theater?!
The Tacoma Musical Playhouse Education Department is proud to present a program designed especially for our senior community. The Young at Heart Players provides an exciting opportunity for mature adults age 50 and older through a performance based workshop that rehearses from April 17th-June 8th and culminates in a fully-staged musical production for everyone to enjoy. This program is free to all registered participants and will be directed by Rick Hornor (actor and retired theater director from Whitworth University).
THE 2012 PRODUCTION:
70, Girls, 70
With a score by John Kander & Fred Ebb (Famous for Cabaret and Chicago) this show concerns a group of senior citizens living on New York's Upper West Side who learn that the long-term hotel they live in will be sold off to developers - making the seniors homeless. To save the hotel, the seniors form a ring of unlikely thieves, wreaking havoc in stores from Sadies' Second Hand Furs to Bloomingdales. In the process, they regain their zest for life. The seniors proceed to use their ill-gotten gains to spruce up their digs and to provide safe harbor for other poor seniors. The musical is based on the 1960 British film 'Make Mine Mink'.
